Modernising a Classic Navigator
When the owner of this Norman Wright Navigator 42 approached RMC Electronics, the goal was clear: update the helm with modern electronics while maintaining the timeless style and character of the vessel.
The Norman Wright Navigator 42 is a well-regarded cruiser known for its practical design, comfortable layout, and classic appeal. While the vessel remains as capable as ever, advancements in marine technology presented an opportunity to improve the boating experience with enhanced navigation, improved visibility, and greater reliability on the water.
Modern Technology, Classic Style
For this project, the focus was on thoughtful integration rather than a complete transformation. The dashboard was upgraded with modern electronics that provide improved navigation, greater functionality, and enhanced reliability on the water.
Every element was carefully considered to ensure the technology complemented the existing helm layout. The result is what we like to call a “confidently modest” refit—a clean, functional upgrade that delivers the benefits of modern marine electronics while remaining respectful to the vessel’s original design.
The finished helm feels familiar to the owner, yet offers the performance, clarity, and confidence that comes with contemporary marine technology.
